The UC Davis Men's Basketball Team is advancing in the March Madness bracket. The losses seemed to motivate the team as they won their three conference tournament games by an average of 23 points. I don't know that they (Jayhawks) have used it as motivation because I don't think it should be motivation, but I also don't think it should be an excuse and a distraction. "But we still got to come out and do what we need to do to make sure it stays that way". A loss to UC Davis would end the Jayhawks' season.
"Last night, for example, we walk in our coaches' meeting room and we're trying to work on our game plan, " Les said. So we can't be looking past any teams. Like he said after the game, he's not afraid of anybody and I really respect hearing that from him. But I'll also add that I've got some really smart kids.
"I feel like we got a good grasp on it and we got a lot of things figured out", he said.
Chima Moneke starred in the First Four with 18 points and 12 rebounds and the 6-6 forward's performance came to no surprise. "We were nervous and took a while to adjust".
Three-pointers by Lemar and Darius Graham helped the Aggies equal their largest lead of nine points at 52-43 with 11:47 left. Jackson's focus appears to be on those two things. "I'm so happy for these guys".
Bill Self has been through these situations time and time again.
Asked what he learned from his involvement and the aftermath of a December dispute at The Yacht Club with a member of the women's basketball team, Jackson pointed to his evolving maturity.
"What I learned from it is we all make mistakes", Jackson said Thursday. Certainly there's been some challenges, but I don't think that's going to be a factor in any way, shape or form.
"When you're a smaller guy, you're naturally going to have a chip on your shoulder and you want to go out there and show the world the things you can do". I think they've been focused. I do believe that there's money to be made on this matchup, as a lopsided score and an overwhelmed underdog who can score, paired with potentially half-interested smells like under.
Before coaching, Les was a standout at Notre Dame and at Bradley and was the 70th overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft, selected in the third round by the Atlanta Hawks. And so it's easy to sit in front of parents and say, you know what, I'm not asking you to do anything that I didn't do. They grab just 29 percent of their misses, which probably has something to do with being in the 300s in average height.
North Carolina Central University is playing in the NCAA Tournament for just the second time ever and they're flying high right now after winning the MEAC championship.
The Kansas Jayhawks (28-4) are ranked No. 3 in the nation, but they are no lower than No.1 in their minds. "There's pressure in it, but when you're at this level and we've been through so much with each other, we've just kind of got a good feel for what we've got going on and we don't have to be real tight or tense and we can just try to go out and play loose and have fun". It's pretty interesting to get that, but I'm very grateful for it.
