The Minnesota Vikings slammed the door shut on a possible Adrian Peterson return on Thursday, with general manager Rick Spielman giving a definitive statement on the matter.
Murray's name had been associated with the Seahawks, but with Eddie Lacy having signed with Seattle, Murray could potentially land a deal with the Vikings, who allowed Adrian Peterson to hit the open market.
Peterson has been an unrestricted free agent since March 9 when Minnesota declined to exercise the 2017 option on his contract.
Congratulations to Latavius Murray on reaching a deal with the Minnesota Vikings. Peterson also has interest in the Raiders. They have three Pro Bowlers up front in Donald Penn, Kelechi Osemele and Rodney Hudson, which is three more than the Vikings had last season. Since 2014, Murray has 20 rushing touchdowns, the second-most in the league among players with 13 or fewer carries per game.
A sixth-round draft pick in 2013 out of Central Florida, Murray was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2015 season. This move should come as a relief to many (or some) of the fans who have been upset by the Vikings free agency moves thus far, or at least those anxious that they were going to have too many needs to cover in the draft (Like me) after the losses incurred since free agency began last Thursday.
Murray goes on to say, "There wasn't a thought in my mind to try and wear or ask for the #28". He had a suspension for his child abuse case in 2014 and a knee injury in 2016.
The unrestricted free agent is the Vikings' career rushing leader with 11,747 yards and 97 touchdowns.
"When I saw that maybe this could be a team that I'd be playing at, obviously you think about those different scenarios", Murray said.
