Focus Features has released a new trailer for filmmaker Sofia Coppola's new film The Beguiled. Nicole Kidman plays their headmistress, with Colin Farrell as the dashingly handsome but wounded Union soldier who shows up at their door.
"I haven't really done a genre film", she added.
After being absent from cinemas since 2013's The Bling Ring (Netflix's A Very Murray Christmas notwithstanding), Academy Award Winner Sofia Coppola, writer/director of Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides, returns with her latest film based on the novel by Thomas Cullinan.
The Beguiled is a sexy Southern Gothic thriller set at a puritanical, cloistered Southern boarding school for girls in Virginia at the height of the Civil War.
"I had seen the 1971 film with Clint Eastwood and it was such a far-out premise". The film stars Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice, Emma Howard, and Addison Riecke.
The house is taken over with sexual tension and risky rivalries, causing them to turn on each other and eventually on him.
Coppola's first feature film since 2013's The Bling Ring, The Beguiled will debut in US theaters on June 23 after its official world premiere at Cannes.
"The Beguiled" will be released in theaters on June 23.
