Alligator bites girl in shallow lake waters at Orange County park

Girl, 10, Frees Herself From Gator's Jaws

Young girl explains escaping Orlando alligator attack

The girl's family took her to a hospital for treatment, where she was recovering after receiving 10 stitches in her leg, mynews13.com reported.

The alligator was captured and euthanized following the attack, officials told WFTV.

'She had puncture wounds but I don't think they're life threatening, ' Weber told the Sentinel. "It was just a joint effort by the patrons", said Matt Suedmeyer, Orange Co.

According to the report, the girl's family said she escaped by poking the alligator in the nose and pulling away its bottom jaw, after learning the manoeuvre at Gatorland.

The park is located near Lake Hart and Lake Mary Jane.

Girl, 10, was sitting in water roughly 2 feet deep when a 8-foot-9-inch gator bit her on the knee and calf.

In 2010, triathlete Doug McCard was bitten while swimming in Lake Mary Jane.

County officials said there were lifeguards on duty at the lake and there were also signs posted that warned of wildlife and swimming was at each person's own risk.

The park around the lake has been closed off to the public for a week while the investigation is carried out.

The attack comes nearly one year after 2-year-old Lane Graves was killed when an alligator pulled him into the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

According to a report by the FWC, 24 people were victim to fatal alligator bites in the state of Florida within the past seven decades.
