Indians right-hander Corey Kluber (3-1, 419) will face Verlander (1-2, 4.60) on Tuesday night at 7:10 p.m. SportsTime Ohio, WTAM/1100 will carry the game.
Corey Kluber (3-2) gave up five runs and seven hits with a walk in three innings. Kluber had gone at least six innings in each of his first five starts.
He looked good, too, before the Detroit Tigers hosted the Cleveland Indians on Monday night.
It was Kluber's shortest outing since completing 2 2/3 innings against Houston last May 9.
He played in 158 games past year, hitting.316 with 38 home runs and 108 RBIs.
Cabrera sent a 94 m.p.h. fastball from Kluber over the fence in left for his fourth home run of the season.
"Hopefully, it's sooner rather than later", Francona said.
The Indians said with Kluber on the disabled list, Joe Colon was called up from Triple-A Columbus. "I felt pretty good in the offseason". I just thought it made sense to take him out and then we can wait until tomorrow and see how he shows up.
Miguel Cabrera is expected to play Tuesday, coming off the 10-day DL with a groin injury.
Adduci led the offense with two hits and an RBI, and Victor Martinez added a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers took two of three from the Indians in this rain-shortened series and are now 4-2 on the season overall. "And it's a confidence booster to prove to myself and to prove to everyone that I can hit up here and I can help the team", the 27-year-old Hicks said, downplaying that there was any added pressure to try to fill Cabrera's shoes. "I don't know. He's been day-to-day for a few weeks now".
"That's why he's the best hitter of our generation", he said.
The Tigers (14-13) head west to begin a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics on Friday while the Indians (15-12) continue their road trip with a three-game set versus the Kansas City Royals.
"Their pitchers did a great job of holding down our offense last season", Cabrera said. That puts him on pace to reach 80 innings for the first time since 2009, when he was mostly a starter. Detroit simply worked Bauer over, scoring seven runs on seven hits in four innings.
