Breath of the Wild sold 2.76 million units on the platform with the unprecedented attach rate of over 100% (the Switch sold 2.74 million so far) and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe seems poised to repeat that kind of success.
"No, this is not just any ordinary success".
"Analysing the scale, we realize that like-for-like, MK8D is mega-hit on a different scale altogether (maybe 5-10x better)". On the launch day in the US, MK8D sold c. 459K units.
Jefferies equity analyst Atul Goyal has been closely following the progress of the new Nintendo Switch console and its games. It may appear to be the same Mario Kart that suffered a low-key outing on Wii U, but this refuelled Switch edition benefits from new feature after new feature, that make it as engrossing, challenging and exciting for serious fans as it is for family members filling gaps in multiplayer parties. "My 31 Mar'08, Wii had a global installed base of 24.45m (Switch was at c. 2.74m by '17 Mar-end) and its installed base in The Americas was 10.6m (Switch was 1.2m)".
The Nintendo Switch has barely been out two months and is still near impossible to find, which definitely limits the amount of consoles in the hands of consumers.
It also means that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has s a 45 percent attach rate with US Switch owners - "nearly one in two Nintendo Switch owners in the USA purchased a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the first day it was available", according to Nintendo.
Wall Street did not expect the new Mario Kart game to be such a huge sensation as all of its focus has been on Zelda Breath of the Wild, which is now the highest ranked game on Metacritic with a rating of 97 points.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is like the Wii U original in nearly every way, except that it has a whole.
Ever since Mario Kart hit the Wii it has had motion controls as a central part of the gameplay. Share your experiences with Super Mario Run down below.
