Carter Wilkerson was retweeted more than 3.4 million times, breaking the record held by Ellen DeGeneres. The brand responded with 18 million, which is seemingly impossible. He did beat Ellen DeGeneres's record, set with a group "selfie" taken by Bradley Cooper at the 2014 Oscars.
Though he fell short, Wendy's still awarded Wilkerson with a free year of chicken nuggets.
Ms DeGeneres brought up the challenge to her record on her talk show a week after Mr Wilkerson's initial plea, when his message had reached 2.6 million retweets.
As an incentive for Carter to help Ellen salvage her record, Ellen gifts Carter with a year supply of Ellen underwear and a 55-inch TCL Roku TV.
This story has been edited to correct the last name of the teen to Wilkerson, from Wilkinson.
HuffPost reached out to Wilkerson, but we're pretty sure he's already making a sizable dent in whatever Wendy's might think a "year supply" of nuggets amounts to. Wendy's just tweeted that Wilkerson will get them nuggs. In other words, you still need corporate backing and a lot of mainstream media exposure to get that many retweets under your belt. Wilkerson also gained fame as he was mentioned in tweets by celebrities, politicians and strangers. This, of course, alongside the year of free nuggets that started this entire viral sensation. Ellen's tweet now has 3.43 million.

The website is how he is raising money for breast cancer charities in northern Nevada. He's also encouraged his Twitter followers to also donate to Pinocchio's Moms on the Run, a Reno-based organization that provides support services to women with breast cancer and their families.
