Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas (4) reacts during the second half of the Boston Celtics 123-111 win over the Washington Wizards in game one of the second round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs at TD Garden.
Isaiah Thomas had a memorable performance Tuesday night in the Celtics' playoff game against the Wizards. On Day 15 of our NBA Playoffs Roundup, the Celtics' Game 1 comeback, the Wizards' continued bench woes, Derrick Favors' big Game 7 and the Clippers still Clippin' take centerstage.
Thomas scored 53 points, surpassing Russell Westbrook for the most points in a game this postseason, as the Celtics rallied back from multiple double-digit deficits to force overtime on the way to a 129-119 home win on Tuesday.
Washington made a barnstorming start, racing into a 16-0 lead before establishing a 38-24 advantage after the first quarter, but Boston recovered in emphatic fashion.
Washington led by as many as 14 in the third and still had an 87-75 lead with just over 4 minutes left before Boston scored nine of the next 11 points to end the quarter. Thomas then scored nine points in overtime to closeout the victory. The 53 points were the most in an National Basketball Association playoff game since Allen Iverson scored 55 in 2003, and just one shy of John Havlicek's franchise postseason record of 54.
The Boston Celtics managed the mother of all comebacks in game one against Washington after the Wizards went 16-0 to start the game and carried a double digit lead into the second quarter.
Game 2 is Thursday in Oakland.
"And sometimes when guys are strongly encouraged to wear those, they wear them", Stevens said. Well, considering Iverson's height is listed at 6-foot exactly, we think it's fair to say Thomas is the first under 6-foot to score over 50. "It ain't broke. That's what I do know".
Wizards: Wall's 19 first-quarter points matched a career playoff high, as did his six first-quarter assists.
- Thomas lost one tooth in Sunday's Game 1, but that wasn't the only part of his smile that needed some dental work afterward.
"I just want to get in there and play hard".
Otto Porter's 3-pointer put Washington ahead 114-112 with 32 seconds to play in regulation but Thomas was fouled by Marcin Gortat and sank two free throws with 14.4 seconds remaining to pull Boston level again.
Isaiah Thomas trium-phantly leaves the court after becoming the fourth Celtic to surpass 50 points in a playoff game. Comparing one player's stats to an entire team is always impressive when they are almost identical.
