US House passes bill to repeal Obamacare

20 Republicans opposed it as well as all House Democrats.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME says there seems to be more questions than answers about the consequences of the House health care bill. For instance, it would substantially reduce the funding for subsidies that the ACA provides to most people seeking health coverage through insurance marketplaces the law created.

Rep. Jim Renacci, over parts of Cuyahoga, Medina and Summit Counties, sees no problems when it comes to pre-existing conditions.

This is despite the fact that health care experts from across the political spectrum have said that the Republican health care bill is unworkable and suffers from fatal flaws and could lead to Americans dropping out of the health care market.

Stephen Colbert took House Republicans to task Thursday on "The Late Show" for passing legislation to replace Obamacare.

This is repealed under the new draft bill, but those without health insurance for more than 63 days pay a 30% surcharge on their insurance premiums for a year.

But the House measure faces profound uncertainty in the Senate, where a handful of Republican senators immediately rejected it, signalling that they would start work on a new version of the bill virtually from scratch. Thursday's 217-213 vote in favor of a replacement eases the sting of embarrassment over the House's failure to approve repeal-and-replace legislation six weeks ago.

Within an hour of the vote, Trump celebrated with House lawmakers in the White House Rose Garden. "This has brought the Republican Party together".

Republicans in the Senate, where the bill is now headed, still have "widespread disagreement" on the health care issue, according to the Washington Post.

"I don't think we should pass bills that we haven't read and don't know what they cost", said Paul Ryan in 2009 when the Democrats were voting for their health care reform bill, which came after a long deliberative process.

U.S. Representatives John Rutherford and Ron DeSantis both voted in favor of the bill.

"I've already made clear that I don't support the House bill as now constructed", Sen.

It also erases tax increases on America's highest earners and the healthcare industry, which were put in place under Obamacare.

Those are fundamental changes that will leave many Americans with less coverage, costlier coverage or no coverage at all.
